Multi-centre study about malnutrition in the hospital environment at a state level

Notas enfermera que hace

Malnutrition in the hospital environment constitutes a significant problem because of its associated prevalence and morbidity, in spite of which, it continues to be overlooked by most professionals and healthcare providers.

In our country, different published studies have estimated the prevalence of hospital malnutrition ranging between 26.7 and 50%.

It is common knowledge that it is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality, with an increase in post-operative complications and the prolongation of hospital stays with the consequent increase in health costs.

To begin to work on this area, Asunción Klinika is taking part in a national multi-centre study along with the following hospitals:

The intention is to gather a series of data from patients at the time of being admitted to hospital, for a period of 4 months.

  • CONUT: at the time of admittance

  • Sex

  • Age

  • Health service to which admitted

  • ICD-10 diagnosis

Objetive

  • The objective of this study, which will have an initial duration of four months, is to carry out nutritional screening which enables the identification of malnourished persons or those at nutritional risk amongst admitted patients, through carrying out the CONUT analysis at the time of their admittance to hospital.
